The Wing Walking Wonder Woman that is Anne Twist has raised an impressive 10k for Parkinsons UK, by doing a daredevil stunt.
Ten months after we first wrote about Anne’s intention to Wing Walk with her friend Sandra Meighan, the duo has finally done it!
The art of wing walking originated in the 1920s as a daredevil stunt performed as part of aerial shows. It involves moving along the wings of biplane while it’s in motion.
Anne and Sandra decided to push themselves out of their comfort zones and doing the wing walk to raise awareness and funds for Parkinsons UK, a charity that is extremely close to Anne’s heart since her father Brian Selley was diagnosed was the disease in 2009.
Parkinsons is a condition which sees the steady loss of cells which produce messaging chemical dopamine within the brain.
Symptoms can vary depending on the individual but can include tremors, slowed movement, stiffness, cramps, tiredness, dizziness, slurred speech and difficulty swallowing.
People with Parkinsons can also experience depression, delusions, hallucinations and anxiety. Roughly 127,000 people in the UK have the condition and many more live with its impact on family and friends.
They were supported by Anne’s brother Mike, sister in law Dee, and Niece Ella who posted about the amazing and scary stunt on her Instagram story.
The challenge was originally scheduled for June 2020 but sadly had to be rescheduled due to COVID. Anne and Sandra originally intended to raise £5000 for Parkinsons but they have absolutely smashed and even doubled their original target raising over £10,000 and still growing.
