Tonight we saw the second round of auditions on The Voice, and you may remember one of the contestants from the rival show The X Factor.

22-year-old Lydia Lucy, from Essex, was a contestant on ITV’s The X Factor in 2013 and made it to the six chair challenge. After being given a chair by Nicole Scherzinger, it was then taken away from her and given to Abi Alton instead. Since then, Lydia has been busy gigging across the country, sharing covers and building up a fanbase online.

Now, Lydia has made the move to BBC1’s The Voice, in the hope of impressing the four coaches will.i.am, Boy George, Paloma Faith and Ricky Wilson. In her show interview beforehand, Lydia said “I want to be successful in music. There’s nothing else I want to do, and I’m ready to take the chance”.

Performing her version of Iggy Azalea and Jennifer Hudson’s ‘Trouble’, Lydia immediately impressed will.i.am, who decided to hit the buzzer and turn his chair after hearing her first note. Her fierce rapping and feisty vocals also caught Boy George and Ricky’s attention, with only Paloma deciding not to turn her chair.

A three-way battle for Lydia then commenced, with Boy George calling her “an amazing singer” whilst will.i.am was left speechless, as he described her singing as “wowzers”. Not to be defeated, Ricky said, “I know that on paper, you’re going to go with Will, but I’m not going to give up that easy”.

In the end, Lydia decided to join will.i.am’s team and we think she made the right decision! He is definitely going to bring the best out of her and is probably most suited to her style.

Good luck to Lydia as she progresses to the next round – we hope that the little vocal powerhouse truly gets to shine during her time on The Voice!
